Adventures in Worship

This year I decided to take some voice lessons. These have helped a great deal even though I feel stupid ah-ah-ah-ahing and memememeing. But I have discovered that they have helped a great deal.
The next adventure might be dance lessons. Tracye and I go to the Cowboy Christmas Ball every year. Last year, we even tried dancing. I apologized to the couple we almost ran over and told them I was a Baptist minister and so dancing was really new to me. He told me that we did better than the Lutheran pastor he had met the year before.

The really big question is that now that I am with a woman that dances - does that mean she will start to cuss and chew also. If so then I will have hit the trifecta of women to avoid for Baptist ministers.

Well I don't think I have to worrry about the chewing part - but if she reads this post - she might just have a few choice words for me.

The Adventure Continues

I just entered a new phase of the adventure I call a walk with God. Tracye and I are helping out Grace Fellowship Baptist Church in San Antonio. We are leading worship there. It is interesting how I felt that God could best use me preaching and God decided He could best use me leading worship. Possibly it has to do with the fact that leading worship is not my natural fit. I know a bit about music and leading worship but I am a natural at preaching and teaching. God seems to like having me do what I am not most comfortable with, perhaps it is so I will learn to depend on Him more and my talent less.

It seems that God does this often, He takes to the place where we feel a little uncomfortable. He asks us to follow Him to a land that He will show us. He promises to make us fathers in our old age. He tells us that He will bless us and make us a blessing to others.

I hope to stretch myself even more through forcing myself to be more disciplined in writing on a regular basis. SO hopefully some of you will read along and hopefully be blessed by the things God teaches me over the next few months.

Hoping to be more like Him

I married my youngest daughter....

Saturday - Dec 19, 2009 I married my youngest daughter Kelsey. It was a small ceremony. And before all y'all think I wnet from redneck to hillbilly - I married my youngest daughter to a nice young man. Now Joey is from Louisiana, and there is a little bit of a rivalry between Texas and Louisiana. So this new merger of 2 different cultures ought to lead to some fun family gettogethers. Joey's parents Dave and Lisa are great folks as were his grandparents and we look forward to spending more time together.

I am not normally what you would call sensitive and emotional - but tears came out of my eyes. What's worse is everyone saw it - there goes my redneck points.

Anyway the wife and I are looking forward to a year with no weddings and no children's tuition to pay.
